When You Want to Say It, But Don't Know How

 Okay. So, I decided to post that Natsume-Yuujinchou-barf-pairing-rant again as an actual post.

Ah, but let me make this perfectly clear before you read this: I love Natsume Yuujinchou more than I’ve ever loved an anime before, and I watched and read the series with complete and utter objectivity so that I would not taint my opinion of the series with pairing shit that may or may not be gibberish. I went in knowing full well, and expecting that some type of straight cannon pairing would probably come up. I was then utterly floored after watching the show and then reading the manga, that there was nothingof the sort, and it was not even due to fan service or whatever .Nothing but the main character’s whole being. So that totally made me just  go, “Oh God, is this real, am I really here?” The following is just my resulting realizations and comments on it:

It’s not that I have a problem with TanumaxNatsume or anything, I really like it, in fact. It’s more just some realizations that it is impossible for me to picture Natsume in any straight relationship, whatsoever. It’s not me projecting my own pairings on it, either. There’s just something about him that makes it clear that he would NOT ever be in a REAL relationship with a female. I can definately see Reiko finding a nice man who is kind and appreciative of her, and her being with him… But, it’s just with Natsume… Gah! I honestly respect this show, and this character too much to just pair with whoever, willy-nilly ,please KNOW and UNDERSTAND this.But the way he starts making bonds, some of the first “true friends”, or people who can “truly understand him” are all eligible males, as far as we know. There’s Tanuma, a boy from his school, who can vaguely see the shadows of yokai, and is often badly affected by them, but still wishes to become close to Natsume, and someone who he can rely on(he is also the one in the gif up there). There’s Natori, who is an exorcist, and at first has somewhat different views than Natsume on yokai, and at first wished primarily for Natsume to become his assistant. Now, he values Natsume’s friendship,and is sensitive to his views whenever the issue came up. Matoba… Okay, seriously, I don’t really see this one too much, simply because his views on yokai are RADICALLY different from Natsume’s, and that is a HUGE cause of strife, and won’t be changing anytime soon. He is also creepy and manipulative, and does not seem to care if others suffer for his benefit. I’m sure that he actually has some good reasons for why he is like that, and is probably not that bad of a person, but I really think if Natsume was in a relationship with him, it would just turn out so very wrong, and not good. Badbad. Yeah. :( Last, but not least, even freaking MADARA could be a possible candidate. Even though he is a yokai, and is always is some beastly form, he has become something like a mentor, and was probably Natsume’s first friend. Like, real friend. I think. Now, out of all those people I mentioned, realistically, I would say that Tanuma or Natori would be the best choices in terms of a relationship. I do feel like Tanuma and Natsume are a bit too best friend-ish for that to really happen, plus, they are SO akward around each other(it’s too cute), but I suppose in a few years, once they’ve grown out of that, it could totally happen. Seriously. Natori. Um, well, I think that his and Natsume’s personalities really compliment each other, and I think that at this point even, Natori would probably do a lot to protect Natsume, while still respecting him. My only problem is that he IS KINDA OLD. Probably like, I dunno, mid to late twenties? If Natsume’s 15 to 17, well… There have been stranger things, so I guess it’s not that bad. And, yeah.

I’m pretty sure there have other people who truly understand him better than Tanuma does. Just because Tanuma sees Yokai doesn’t mean he truly understands him. What about the other people we’ve seen? Unless you haven’t seen all four seasons?

Well, I did mention some other people there besides Tanuma, in case you didn’t notice. I actually prefer Natori in terms of pairings, and I know where you are coming from. I probably was throwing around that term too freely, but I really think that of all the characters we’ve encountered, only Madara, Tanuma, and Natori can understand a bit, and care about him so much to help him whenever they can(uh, I guess Madara is special there because even though he knows the most about Natsume, and has taken responsibility of him, he hasn’t really actively tried to get CLOSER to him, you know?). Any other characters we have met have known or known about Natsume, and in their own ways, gotten closer, but never close ENOUGH to really see him the way a partner would, and that’s what I was talking about here. I think that Natsume needs someone who will take care of him, and not to say that a girl could not take care of him, but Natsume by himself just doesn’t seem the type to settle down with a nice girl who may or may not know about both sides of him, the spiritual part that can see yokai, and the somewhat lonely human side. Taki, for all she knows of him, I really can only see as being a friend. She doesn’t ever really make an effort, like Tanuma does, though I guess that respect his wishes is one thing. I think I was mostly just pointing out that the ones we know of right now who DO know or know of both sides to Natsume happen to all be males, and then commenting on who would maybe be a good choice of partner, since I don’t really think Nastume will ever marry a woman. Probably.

Eh, but maybe he’s asexual. WHO KNOWS. All we really know is that he hates troubling others and doesn’t seem to want to depend on them, probably either in case he ends up causing them suffering or in case they hurt him. So he doesn’t actively try to get closer to others, only when he tries to help, since he’s so kind and caring (//^w^//) like that…

Sorry about the long reply, I just wanted to make what I said clearer, since it was very late when I wrote both those things, and I never really tried to then.

Also, I have watched all four seasons, and read most of the manga. Including volume 13 ;)

And one more thing. I never thought that I would get this many responses to one of my posts, so thank you all so much! ^^
